And...Just when you think you've heard everything, you haven't! Jerseyband, I ran across this group on CD Baby. They are classed as Jazz/Heavy Metal Fusion. They call their genre Lungcore. This is from one of their first albums so for $2.95 for the whole album mp3 download, I couldn't resist. Here is their bio from CD Baby.
What does a screaming hardcore metal vocalist have in common with a jazz trumpeter? For Jerseyband, it is one in the same. The band's unassuming trumpeter, Brent Madsen intermittently pulls the horn from his lips just long enough to let out his version of an ape on a rampage. One moment, Madsen screams, "Move my carrot!" and the next, your head is spinning because Jerseyband has already exchanged the gates of hell for a jaunt in Peewee's Playhouse. Backed by drums, electric guitar, and guitar synth, Jerseyband's horns (three saxophones and a trumpet) cut through meaty arrangements that shock their audiences into submission. Enthusiasts have compared their sound to Mr. Bungle, Zappa, and Meshuggah but one thing is clear; this band is best categorized under their own genre of horn driven metal called Lungcore. You can watch a music video of Jerseyband on The Evolution Of Jazz Blog or catch more Lungcore music on the The Evolution Of Jazz. Leave a comment, please!
Uploaded a couple of new tunes, first, IOU by rising star drummer Austin McMahon. This is contemporary smooth jazz. The second song is Fantasy by Misz another rising jazz drummer and keyboardist. This is nu-jazz, funk fusion and features jazz guitarist Ernie Watts as well as Misz. Hope you enjoy.

As my regular readers know I've been promoting my mini-blog as part of my Evolution Of Jazz website. When I added the blog, I intended it to be an open blog for all genre of music, not just jazz. If you enjoy writing about other genre of music and would like to add an article or review some music on my blog, please contact me and I'll set you up with an upper level account above just "member". I find it hard just to keep up with the jazz scene, let alone all the other types of music, so your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have uploaded the Blueberry Cave album by Garaj Mahal, 2005 for download by registered blog members. It's in 4 separate downloads, but gives you the complete album in mp3 format, just download the 4 zip files. I also have an audio post of one of the songs from this album so you can sample it. This is classed as Fusion Jazz with Indian music, Rock and a strong emphasis on funk. Check it out at The Evolution Of Jazz Mini-Blog. Don't forget, you have to be a registered blog member to view, download or comment on any downloadable files.
Well, so far I have installed 3 different free uBlogs to use with the EOJ Site. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. The first one I tried was the much ballywhoed Laconica which is what Identi.ca is using. Let me tell you, unless you are a Linux Guru and PHP coder, you are in for a battle. The included installation instructions assume you have shell access on your server, which most shared servers don't allow. Finally I found an installer program for it! Just set up a MySQL data base, upload the installer files, point your browser to them, fill in required info and Voila!, It downloads and installs Laconica on your server! You can find this script at Gimme Soda Blog. Laconica lacks an Admin area, themes and plugs-ins, so unless you can write these yourself, you might want one of the other scripts. You can check out my installation at The Daily Growl. I just did a "GIT" clone of the new Laconica version. It now comes with a web browser install script which should make things a lot easier!
Next I tried one called Open Micro Blogger. It can be installed via FTP and it does have somewhat of an Admin. area, but that still lacks full functionallity. You can post audio files, but I could not get the video posting to work. It has a few more themes, but not a lot. It does allow you to upload an Avatar which appears on your new posts, but it still leaves something to be desired. My installation is Here.
About 10:00 P.M. last night I found a 3rd free uBlog script, Chyrp! This one looked promising! A lot of free add-ons, about 10 themes, and easy to install! I spent all last night installing and "playing" with it! Most, but not all of the addons work. One I am having a problem with is the Blogroll addon which is almost a requirement, I corrected this manually. One other thing is that you can not upload a picture or avatar to your profile, hence no pic or avatar next to your posts like most other uBlogs. You can post and play audio files, add pictures to your posts and interact with Twitter. I am still adding adons but it is working fairly well as is. One good thing is that it has a good admin area where you can delete unwanted spam posts and ban users. All in all I feel this is the most promising free uBlog script out there. You can check out mine at The Evolution Of Jazz uBlog
So, if you ever wanted to start your own uBlog, here are three choices. While none of the three are 100%, work out of the box, they are free. All are still being developed, so they will, no doubt, improve over time. Chyrp is on V2rc3 so they will probably release a final version soon. Whichever script you try, good luck and maybe you know of a better alternative.
SAMO ŠALAMON is one of the most talented and interesting young guitarists and composers to emerge on today's jazz scene. He began his musical journey by studying classical guitar in Maribor and continued briefly with studying jazz guitar on the jazz conservatorium in Klagenfurt. In December 2000 he was living with and studying individually for one month in New York with the jazz master John Scofield, with whom he has been a friend for years. Through the years he was studying guitar and had lessons with known guitar players such as Rudy Linka, Tim Brady and Andrea Allione. So far he has recorded 8 albums as a leader for labels Fresh Sound New Talent (Spain), Splasch Records (Italy), and Goga Records (Slovenia). So far he has played and recorded with many great international like John Scofield, Paul McCandless, Mark Turner, Michel Godard, Drew Gress, Tony Malaby, Mark Helias, Tom Rainey, Tim Berne, Donny McCaslin, Dave Binney, Josh Roseman, Gerald Cleaver, John Hebert, Julian Arguelles, Dominique Pifarely, Carlo DeRosa, Tyshawn Sorey, Matt Brewer, Kariem Riggins, Luciano Biondini, Jim Mullen, Dejan Terzic, Rudi Mahall, Fareed Haque, Don Falzone, Rudy Linka, Tim Brady, Paolino Dalla Porta, Ares Tavolazzi, Roberto Dani, Wilbert De Joode, Joris Teepe, Bruno Cesselli, Zlatko Kaucic, Salvatore Maiore, Kyle Gregory, Emanuele Cisi, Gianluca Petrella, Achille Succi, Steve Altenberg, Yayoi Ikawa, Kruno Levacic, Igor Lumpert, Dusan Novakov, Andrea Allione, Axel Dörner, Uli Jennesen, Loris Bertot, Jan Rhoder, Danilo Gallo, Dejan Pecenko, Alex Deutsch, Luigi Mosso, Aya Shimura, Francesco Bigoni, Giorgio Pacorig, Vasko Atanasovski, Robert Jukic, Jure Pukl, Nino Mureskic, Aljosa Jeric, and others. Anyone who has listened to jazz has probably heard the name Dave Brubeck. The Dave Brubeck Quartet experimented with time signatures that were unheard of in jazz in the 50's and 60's which produced such hits as “Take Five” 5/4 time, and the Brubeck classic “Blue Rondo a la Turk”, composed in the traditional Turkish 9/8 meter. The Dave Brubeck Quartet disbanded in 1967.
What may not be as well known is Dave Brubeck's career after 1967. After the breakup of The Quartet, Dave continued and expounded upon his role as a jazz-inspired composer, creating ballets, scores, oratorios, cantatas, symphonic pieces, classical compositions, liturgical compositions (including La Fiesta De La Posada and even a contemporary mass, Mass To Hope) and Native American inspired compositions. He continued to work not only on his own and with contemporary jazz masters, but also collaborated in a Quartet with his sons Dan, Darius, and Chris, all jazz artists of their own merit. In 2006, at the 49th Monterey Jazz Festival, Dave debuted his commissioned Cannery Row Suite, a jazz opera, based on the Steinbeck classic which depicted Monterey, California as an important Sardine fishing and cannery town.
Among the awards and honors Brubeck received after the breakup of the Classic Quartet are: playing for four presidents (Kennedy, Johnson, Reagan, and Clinton), election to the Down Beat Hall of Fame, San Francisco Jazz Festival Laureate, an appearance at the Reagan-Gorbachev Moscow Summit in 1988, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, National Medal of the Arts, composing a score for Pope John Paul II's visit to San Francisco in 1987, six honorary doctorate degrees, named a Duke Ellington Fellow at Yale University, and a doctorate degree from Duisberg University -- the first doctorate degree awarded to an American jazz musician from a German university. On April 8, 2008 US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, presented Brubeck with a "Benjamin Franklin Award for Public Diplomacy" for offering an American "vision of hope, opportunity and freedom" through his music.
Born in 1920, Dave Brubeck is fast becoming a music legend in his
own time.
You can check out some of Dave's music at The Evolution of Jazz.
Well, I'm still waiting on the new updated script I use on my video sharing site VideomaxX. It was supposed to be released around Christmas or the first of the year, but is just going into beta testing, probably another month or 2 until it is released. In the meantime I had to keep busy, so I found an installer for the Laconica micro-blog Twitter clone. If anyone would like to try uBlogging the URL for that is The Daily Growl Microblog. If you have anything to "growl" about or just want to share with family or friends please feel free to use it. It's open to any NON- X-RATED subjects. Last but not least, if you need a start/home page similar to iGoogle or Netvibes I found one of those, too! It isn't quite as fancy, but it does have quite a few built in widgets and any UWA/Netvibes widget can be added. I haven't tried any, but I am told the Google widgets work too. You can get your local weather, have a choice of search engines, can add you bookmarks and links, etc. The start page script is at Free Sart Page. I don't collect any data or emails from my sites as long as they are legal. Of course my The Evolution of Jazz site is finished, but I am still uploading new songs on a regular basis. I'm just trying to find something everyone will like. As always my sites are ad-free and free to use.
I just uploaded a new video, it takes fusion jazz to a new level! It's called Jazz Thing by Gang Starr. Check it out and let me know what you think. This is one of the videos on my The Evolution Of Jazz Site.

Bill, You should receive Beast Wedding in a few days. It was shipped today. Enjoy. read more
